Entrepreneurs and Mental Wellness

Just because you are an entrepreneur or business owner doesn't mean you are mentally healthy.

With so much that goes into not only being an entrepreneur, but being successful at it, there are many opportunities for the daily tasks to mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically drain you. One idea that I've never been able to get with is the whole #TEAMNOSLEEP notion... Hecks no! I need my rest every single night, and my naps throughout the day. To properly run your business, you just simply need to give your body the opportunity to reset and regenerate.

Mental Wellness, as described by myself in one of my guest blogs, is described as a degree of mental healthiness or unhealthiness and encompasses everything from mental health to mental illness. (Read full blog post HERE) In order to run your business in an optimal state, YOU have to be in an optimal state as well, and this includes. People like to think that you can separate personal from business, but ultimately you can't. If you could, you wouldn't need personal days from work... That's like society asking you to be someone that you're not in order to appease everyone else, and we don't care about who you are.

You can't separate personal from business simply because they stem from the same source. What you can do, however, is learn to effectively deal with your emotions and feelings so that they don't control what you do throughout your day. Here are a few ways to do so:

1. Understand that whatever just happened does not control you or your future. You control it. Yes you and your bae just had a huge fight, but you know this is only for a moment and not the future. So no need to unleash all of that energy on the people you will meet throughout the day. View it as an opportunity to become better instead of bitter.

2. Start to practice immediate Self Care activities. Immediate means things that you can do at the exact moment you need it most. For example, practice mindfulness meditation. This helps you to focus and appreciate the here and now. Process the feelings, emotions, and thoughts now instead of allowing them to fester.

3. Check yourself right then. We all need to listen to that voice that says, "now you know you need to stop tripping..." It's better for us to snap ourselves back into shape because it's our responsibility to do so.

These are just a few ways for us to practice mental wellness in order to run our businesses as effectively as possible. Being mentally healthy also sets an example for those that work with us and around us. Entrepreneurship is hard. No need in making it harder being mentally unhealthy!
